Le Cantlie Suites Montreal hotel review

Hotel Le Cantlie Suites Montreal Review

An honest review of my stay at the Le Cantlie Suites Hotel in Montreal

I came to Montreal for a week in the summer of 2021 to visit a relative while their home was being renovated, so we needed a place to stay with a full kitchen. The Hotel Le Cantlie Suites was centrally located near my relative’s workplace and in walking distance to several museums and attractions downtown, so we booked a one week stay in a Junior Suite with a king sized bed and we requested the full kitchen option.

I booked this hotel on hotels.com myself and we were not in any way compensated by the hotel, so this is a completely independent review.

You can read a detailed summary of all my thoughts on our experience at the Cantlie Hotel Montreal or you can jump straight to my final recommendation at the end.

Hotel Le Cantlie Suites Montreal Lobby and Elevator

Entrance Lobby, Elevators and Parking

The lobby area is nicely decorated with high ceilings, lots of seating areas and information about tourist activities and current museum exhibitions. There were always staff at the front desk and we never waited more than a few minutes to be served. Service was available fully bilingual in English or French.

Check-in with our online reservation through Hotels.com was fine and we received two standard plastic room cards. The main row of elevators is also accessed through the lobby area and the elevators were decorated in modern bright colours and had screens showing where different amenities were located.

We had struggled to understand where the parking garage was located because it didn’t show up on Google Maps, so we ended up just paying at another private parking garage across the street. The hotel did have a valet service for about 25$ a day, subject to availability, so if it is full, you would have to park somewhere else. There was also quite a bit of construction around the hotel and we found the parking situation to be a more confusing part of our stay, maybe call in advance and check with the front desk if you are concerned before your arrival.

Hotel Le Cantlie Montreal Elevator and Hallway

Hallway and Elevator

The hallways and elevator area were clean, nicely decorated, well-lit and the signage to find rooms was clear. They also had hand sanitizer available all around the hotel, when we visited while some pandemic restrictions were still in effect in August 2021.

Entrance and Kitchen Area

We had booked a king bed suite with kitchen. The doors had standard locking mechanisms and safety information and the closet had hangers. The kitchen area was spacious enough like in a small apartment and came with two barstools for seating. There was also a small flatscreen TV and chest of drawers slightly separated from the main bed area, which is nice for a longer stay. Opposite the bed there was a three person sofa and coffee table as well. The carpets were clean and the kitchen has been adequately cleaned and the room smelled fine, no smoke smell or artificial fragrance.

Kitchen Appliances and Amenities

The kitchen area was the highlight of the room during our stay. Having all the major appliances like regular size fridge and freezer, ice cube trays, microwave, coffee maker and coffee and tea supplies, oven and stove, sink and washing soap, plates and bowls, cutlery drawer and bottle opener and salt and pepper. The only thing that was missing was a dishwasher !

Everything was clean and appliances were functional, we just found it was very useful to have a kitchen for a longer stay and it provided the option to have take-out and make our own healthier breakfast, so this style of room may be a good option for families as well.

Hotel Le Cantlie Suites Montreal King Bed Suite

King Bed

The king size bed was fine for two people, mattress was average medium firm and I think the pillows were regular down filled. The fixtures beside the bed had outlets for charging phones and devices which was useful. We also found the blackout curtains to be adequate against the morning sun.

Office Area, Balcony and Window Views

The office area was quite standard with a desk and office chair directly opposite a large row of windows. There is a balcony area outside but the entrance has been bolted shut, presumably for safety, so that was slightly disappointing to not be able to go outside, but there was still a nice view of the mountain park area.

Hotel Le Cantlie Montreal King Suite Bathroom

Bathroom Area

The washroom area was the most disappointing part of the stay. It was a bit small relative to the size of the suite and the shower had extremely low water pressure, which made it difficult to adequately rinse hair in the shower, it just seemed like not enough water was coming out of the shower fixture. Otherwise, towels were average and several sizes were provided and toiletries were also average but fine.

Hotel Le Cantlie Montreal Rooftop Pool Area

Rooftop Pool Area

The pool area was a nice surprise at this hotel. It is an open air pool on the roof and it was big enough to swim laps. There was also a washroom, changing area, towels, vending machine and lounge chairs and furniture available. At the times of our visit, capacity was limited for pandemic restrictions so we had to sign up for a time slot and get a key from the front desk.

There were nice views around the city as well from the rooftop area, definitely worth a visit in nice weather and it was a good place to relax after a full day of sightseeing.

Final Recommendation:

Hotel Le Cantlie Suites Montreal Review

I found our stay at this hotel to be generally quite pleasant. The décor was modern, the hotel seemed clean, staff were friendly, helpful and bilingual.

We thought our room was accurately reflected in the pictures on the website and felt that we got what we intended to book, no surprises or missing or broken amenities or features.

The best part of the room was the spacious size, well stocked kitchen and seating area, which made it easy to have healthier meals over a longer stay and not rely on restaurants all the time. The bed and office area were adequate and as described.

The disappointing aspects were the locked room balcony area which could not be used and the smaller sized washroom with a low pressure shower, which we do not know whether that was specific to our room and we may have asked to change rooms had our stay been longer to avoid the frustration of using the shower. The washroom area was still clean and had all amenities and toiletries as listed so that part was fine.

We had nice views of the mountain from our windows and the rooftop open air pool area was very pleasant to use in the middle of summer, although it may not be accessible in winter months.

We also would have liked clearer instructions and a better map on the website for the parking situation. It was confusing and we just ended up paying to park at another private garage across the street, so I think the way that parking information is presented could be improved.

Overall, we were happy with the size of the room, the useful kitchen and the central location of the hotel relative to the price we paid, and we would consider staying again if we needed accomodation for several days or if travelling with children.
